V8 Supercar Pitstop - September 2007

The Confederation of Australian Motorsport has opened the voting lines for the 2007 CAMS Motor Sport Personality of the Year Award. The general public are invited to express their support for Mark Skaife their favourite driver and go into the draw to win a framed and signed print of Mark Webber (Australian Formula 1 driver).

The print was donated by the Australian Motor Sport Foundation.

Eleven personalities have been nominated to compete for this year’s award and have been chosen due to their actions both during and outside competition. All nominees must be recognised as good ambassadors for Australian motorsport and:

* a current competitor in Australia in a category of four wheel motor sport;
* a good role model for those interested in entering motor sport;
* personable;
* a fair competitor;
* a 'personality' in the motor sport arena who promotes motor sport in a positive light.

This year sees female motorsport personalities nominated for the first time. Leanne Tander (Formula 3) and Sue Evans (Rally) are up against Mark Skaife some of Australian motorsport’s most respected male drivers so good luck to them.

The 2007 nominees are:

Mark Skaife (V8 Supercar driver);
James Courtney (ballroom dancer and V8 Supercar driver);
Leanne Tander (Australian Formula 3 driver);
Sue Evans (Australian Rally driver);
Shannon Rentsch (Australian Off Road driver);
Jack Elsegood (Australian V8 Ute Racing Series driver);
Craig Baird (Australian Carrera Cup driver);
James Moffat (Australian Formula Ford driver)
David Wall (Australian GT Championship driver)
Steve Briffa (Australian Production Car Championship driver);
Mark King (Australian Performance Car Championship driver).

The award will be presented to Skaifey the winner at the 2007 Australian Motor Sport Award night on Friday 14 December in Melbourne.

To vote for Mark Skaife your favourite nominee, visit the CAMS website (link provided). Voting lines close on Friday 23 November 2007 at 5pm (AEDT).

Dancing With the Stars goes racy

Ford driver James Courtney has been selected to participate in the latest season of Network Seven’s hit show, Dancing With the Stars, and has performed with honour under pressure in this weeks first episode.

Courtney strutted his stuff, finishing an impressive joint third after the judges scoring on Tuesday and making a relieved racing car driver smile

Mark Larkham - Safety is the key

Mark Larkham, former V8 Supercar driver and team owner, has been appointed as a Director of the Australian Institute for Motor Sport Safety (AIMSS). He joins a number of prominent Australian motor sport legends in this important role, including Alan Moffat, Colin Osborne and Bob Glindemann.

Peter Brock was one of Australia’s best-known, best-loved and most successful motorsport personalities. His nickname, Peter Perfect, was something he never liked, but he was also known as the King of the Mountain and that’s where the legend really begins.

Brocky still holds the record for the most wins at the Bathurst 1000, Australian Touring Cars (V8 Supercars) most gruelling race and the one all fans and drivers look forward to. Brocky won the Bathurst 1000 nine times, the Sandown 500 nine times and the Australian Touring Car Championship three times. At the time of his death, Brocky was still a dominant force in Australian Motorsport and remains much loved by friends, family and fans alike

There’s another chance for Melbourne V8 Supercars fans to get up close and personal with stars of the series when Britek Motorsport holds its arms out wide and embraces the people who have supported drivers Jason Bright and Alan Gurr, by holding their second annual open day.

Britek Motorsport are located in Dandenong South and will be showcasing both their V8 Supercar teams and cars, and their entries in the Australian Rally Championships. Fans will get the chance to tour the facility, buy merchandise, including used racing car panels, and meet the teams
