Mark Skaife: Number one (I could have told them that)
October 24th 2007 06:52
A newly published book has named Mark Skaife as the number one V8 Supercar driver of the last ten years.
V8 Supercars: The First Decade is a statistical pole of all the 199 drivers who have participated in the sport over 300 races since it was revamped a decade ago. Limited edition and individually numbered leatherbound copies of the book are available for purchase on the Publishing 101 website (www.p101.com.au).
“Skaife over the course of 10 years has been astounding, and it is fitting that a bloke with three titles and three Bathurst crowns should top this pole,” P101’s Andrew Clarke said when the book was officially launched.
“We tried to work out the fairest way of rating the drivers statistically, and since the Championship is what it is all about we decided to give the title quite a bit of weight over everything else.
“In the end, I think the top 10 is a pretty good reflection of the drivers over the course of the V8 Supercar Championship Series. Perhaps Todd Kelly, Jason Bargwanna and John Bowe were a but unlucky to, all three enjoying a better Championship average than Glenn Seton and Rick Kelly who makes the grade for winning the first and the 10th title respectively.”
The top 10 drivers are:
1. Mark Skaife
2. Marcos Ambrose
3. Craig Lowndes
4. Russell Ingall
5. Glenn Seton
6. Rick Kelly
7. Garth Tander
8. Steven Richards
9. Jason Bright
10. Greg Murphy
V8 Supercars: The First Decade is an officially licensed publication of V8 Supercars Australia, and is on sale now Angus & Robertson, Dymmocks, Kmart and all good book retailers.
