James Courtney gets saucy
October 10th 2007 11:23
James Courtney was once again showing fans what he was made of with a saucy salsa on Tuesday’s Dancing with the Stars. With muscles on display the 27 year old Ford driver shook parts of his body he’d probably never shaken before and seemed to have a great time doing it.
The audience may have been impressed but the judges weren’t, judging James and Olya down for a routine they considered to be too simple. Todd, in particular, was a little harsh in his criticism, appreciating that James had just experienced the busiest week of his season but taking the Jeld-wen driver to task for not taking the competition seriously enough to devote additional time to learning a more difficult routine.
All I can say is that the judges are obviously not V8 Supercar fans because even the most casual of fans can appreciate the importance of the Bathurst round of the championship. Not just for the points it offers for the championship but for the honour and excitement drivers feel when they take part and are one of the lucky few to finish the race.
Preparation for the Bathurst 1000 would probably be equivalent to a couple of full time jobs for a driver like James Courtney and, although his preparations for Bathurst paid off (he came a very respectable second) his lack of preparation for the Salsa left him open to criticism from the people that matter on the night.
Courtney’s relief was clearly evident when he and Olya were the final pairing to be called out of the line and asked to dance again next week. Corinne Grant and her partner Csaba Szirmai were eliminated.
Motor sport fans should get behind James and Olya so to vote call 1902 55 77 11 or text “James” to 19 19 77.
Just to finish … I’ve recently been asked why I’m supporting James Courtney, a Ford driver, when I am a strong Holden fan, a Skaifey fan. The answer is simple. By taking the courageous step to appear on a show like Dancing with the Stars, James has raised the profile of V8 Supercars enormously. Not just that, he’s raised the profile in such a positive way that I’d be an idiot not to support what he’s doing.
I think he’s done more for the sport in the short time he’s been dancing than many drivers do in their whole career.
Good on you, James, and good luck.
