Motorsport Legends Gather Together
August 9th 2007 22:04
On August 20th 2007 some of the biggest names of Australian motorsport will come together for what’s believed to be the first time ever. The motley crew of motorsport heroes will gather at Sydney’s Star City Casino to celebrate 45 years of memories at the launch of one of the world’s greatest races – the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.
The last time a group of greats gathered at anything like this magnitude was at last year’s Bathurst event, where legends of the sport came together to commemorate the life of Peter Brock, nine times winner of the race, after his sudden death the previous month.
To honour the “King of the Mountain”, drivers now compete at Bathurst for the Peter Brock Trophy, won for the first time last year by Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup.
The guest of honour at the ‘Legend’s Lunch’ is the 89-year-old Harry Firth, the first winner of Bathurst in 1963 in a Ford Cortina.
Joining him will be many well-respected winners of the Bathurst race including:
Dick Johnson (winner 1981, 1989, 1994)
Larry Perkins (1982, 1983, 1984, 1993, 1995, 1997)
Colin Bond (1969)
Allan Grice (1986, 1990)
Allan Moffat (1970, 1971, 1973, 1977)
Kevin Bartlett (1974)
John Goss (1974, 1985)
Mark Skaife (1991, 1992, 2001, 2002, 2005)
Craig Lowndes (1996, 2006)
Russell Ingall (1997, 1995)
Garth Tander (2000)
Greg Murphy (1996, 1999, 2003, 2004)
Steven Richards (1998, 1999)
Jamie Whincup (2006) and
John Bowe (1989, 1994).
It is hoped they will be joined by Bob Morris (1976), Tony Longhurst (1988, 2001) and the great Fred Gibson (1967) for the ’Legend’s Lunch’.
“To see these faces all in the one place conjures up all of those unbelievable memories of what Bathurst is all about,” said Dick Johnson.
“Some of the things that happen up there are truly extraordinary. It takes an enormous amount of courage and skill to win Bathurst and all of these men have it.
“It is simply the most amazing touring car race on the planet and uniquely Australian.”

fingers and toes are crossed by the way ... it'd better not take that long to find a place to llive up north.
Anyway ...
All about the champions ... I considered mentioning Skaifey first on the list (and highlighting his name) but managed to restrain myself. Unbiased ... remember!!!
Have a wonderful weekend
