Newest V8 Supercar team ready to roll for Australian F1 Grand Prix weekend
March 11th 2008 01:22
The Australian F1 Grand Prix next weekend will see the introduction of the newest V8 Supercar team, the Ausdrill Ford Rising Stars Racing Team. This will be the first time the team have wet their feet in the main series after a number of years in the development series.
“Our license purchase went through recently and the first meeting we could enter for was the AGP”, team Owner Jim Morton said. “The whole team is suffering from racing deprivation and after four years of racing in the V8 Development Series there is almost a surreal feeling that next week we get our first start in the main series”.
The Ausdrill team will debut in the special non points round of the V8 Supercars series with Perth ex European F3 driver Michael Patrizi, who had his first ever drive in a touring car at the Winton Test Day in February this year. He’s not the only rookie to the sport for the team with their main commercial partner, Ausdrill, also dipping their toe into something previously untried for the company.
“Not only is our flagship commercial partner, Ausdrill from Perth but so is our driver and some of our support partners”, Kim White FRSR Commercial Manager said. “Ausdrill is a diversified mining and services company providing leading edge services in mining, drill and blast, exploration, procurement, logistics, manufacturing, telecommunications and automotive industries.
“Their operations are not only in Australia but the United Kingdom and Africa. They are looking to the involvement to increase their brand awareness and in particular attract employees to their Western Australian business operations”, he said.
The Ausdrill team is a joint initiative with the Ford Motor Company, designed to develop and nurture future generations of Ford V8 Supercar drivers.
The inclusion of the V8 Supercars in the 2008 Australian Grand Prix is a welcome decision for fans Australia wide, after the category missed out in 2007. Although a non points scoring round, V8 Supercars Australia is trialing a special event destined to answer the age old question: Who’s better? Red or Blue?
The fastest qualifier will determine the starting places for all drivers with all Holdens lining up on one side of the track and all Fords on the other. To read more about this unique event for the V8 Supercars click here.
