Stone Brothers Racing is on the hunt for a new naming rights sponsor for their number nine Ford Falcon after Caltex announced they would no longer be involved in the V8 Supercar category in 2008. An eight year relationship between SBR and Caltex has been severed leaving the door open for another sponsor and ensuring brand new livery for Russell Ingall in the 2008 championship.
Co-owners and team managers Ross and Jimmy Stone are disappointed about the change however they admit that an exciting time is ahead for the team.
"However, while one door closes, another one opens,” said Ross Stone, “we also see this decision as an opportunity for SBR to develop relationships with new organisations and to concentrate on growing SBR's current sponsors.
"As a team we have been through this process before, with JELD-WEN coming on board in 2006 following a long-term association with Pirtek. We have no doubt that we can build a successful relationship with a new sponsor in 2008 and beyond.”
The relationship between SBR and Caltex has had benefits to both sides with SBR helping to popularise the Caltex products, in particular the Havoline oil and Vortex fuel items. The association with V8 Supercar racing has also provided necessary feedback to Caltex regarding the oils, fuels and lubricants supplied to the team.
Ross Stone and his brother are now looking forward to developing further some of the existing relationships SBR has with other sponsors.
The nature of the sport of motor racing necessitates relationships between major sponsors and the teams involved. Incidents during racing, technical development and maintaining a knowledgeable and dedicated team membership all involve huge amounts of financial backing, without which teams like SBR would no longer be able to continue to compete.
Surely there will many potential sponsors eager to jump on Russell Ingall and SBR’s bandwagon. After all, you wouldn’t pass up the opportunity to be associated with a driver known as The Enforcer … would you?
