Team BOC goes red
February 4th 2008 05:54
It’s out of the dark side and into the light for Team BOC in the 2008 V8 Supercars series championship with a major shift from Holden to Ford, along with a new driver.
Team owner Brad Jones is excited about the changes which include a new supply agreement with Walkinshaw Performance, furnishing the team with a highly competitive pair of Holden Commodores, and the signing of Cameron McConville, an experienced campaigner in V8 Supercars.
“We have a pair of very good vehicles,” says Jones. “One of them, driven by Todd Kelly, won last year’s final round and the other was used by Mark Skaife in the second half of last year.”
“Cameron is a seasoned campaigner, eager for a fresh start with Team BOC,” he continued. “We’re looking to him for his knowledge and experience with the Commodore which he’s driven for the last ten years.”
McConville has been involved full-time in the sport since 2000, joining the Holden Racing Team the year before for their Bathurst challenge in 1999.
“The entire crew is hungry for success,” says Cameron. “I’m coming off a bit of a lull with my previous team so I have a lot of motivation and am very focused on maximising our results with the equipment that we have for 2008.”
“It’s like a reunion of sorts,” he continued. “I drove with Brad back in the Audi days in ’97. I started my full time pro racing with him so it is nice to come back and join him again.”
It’s not the only reunion for Cameron with the arrival of leading engineer Wally Storey from Tasman Motorsport. “I worked with Wally for three years at Lansvale Racing and that connection with your engineer can have a big bearing on the end result in this sport – Wally is the best engineer I have ever worked with.”
McConville will be joining Andrew Jones, son of team co-owner Kim Jones and nephew to Brad, who is just about to embark on his second full season with Team BOC. , “It’s a big step but the equipment is a known quantity,” Andrew says. “The history of the Walkinshaw Performance cars that we’re using is good – no question. So, we’ll have a great opportunity to succeed this year. Plus, we have a good environment, one that will bring us success.”
Finished Brad Jones, “We looked long and hard last year for a partner to help us become successful again and it quickly became clear that this relationship with Holden was the best option to move us up the grid in V8 Supercar racing.”
