The Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000
October 4th 2007 03:02
The Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 is just a few more sleeps away and Network Seven is planning on televising the event with the biggest TV coverage ever.
This weekend’s racing will be broadcasted live to hundreds of thousands of dedicated fans via 116 cameras positioned in cars, along the track, in the pits and even in the air. This is the biggest broadcast ever produced by an Australian television station. There will be 31 on-track cameras, 4 pit lane cameras, 1 helicopter camera and a massive 49 in-car cameras placed in 10 V8 Supercars. Not to mention the 31 additional cameras in cars competing in support races throughout the weekend.
Drivers with in-car cameras include Rick Kelly and Garth Tander (#1), Mark Skaife and Todd Kelly (#2), James Courtney and David Besnard (#4) and Greg Murphy and Jason Richards (#51).
On-track cameras include two flycams, one along pit lane and the other designed to take the viewers on a ride down the mountain, through the Dipper and Forrests Elbow, at 160 kilometres an hour.
Neil Crompton and Matthew White will bring all the drama straight to the living rooms of viewers in 130 countries all over the world.
The Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 will be broadcasted on Channel Seven on:
Friday, 5 October 1:00-4:30pm
Saturday, 6 October 12:00-5:30pm
Sunday, 7 October 7:00am-6:00pm
All times are Eastern. Check local guides if you live in a different area.
This year is the second time drivers will be competing for the Peter Brock Trophy and the first time the winners will be presented with exact two-third sized, sterling silver replicas of the real thing. The only difference will be the inscription which reads ‘2007 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 Winner’, whereas the real Peter Brock Trophy reads ‘King of the Mountain’.
Winners will receive their replica trophies at the 2007 Gala Dinner at Crown Casino in December and the winning team will be the proud baby sitters of the King of the Mountain trophy until just before Bathurst 2008.
The Peter Brock Trophy is one-of-a-kind, made of 2000g of sterling silver and has been valued at a whopping $75,000, although the fact that it is one-of-a-kind and was made as a memorial to the great man himself makes it almost priceless.
Hardy Brothers Jewellers were commissioned last year to design and produce the trophy and Chief Executive Officer, Stuart Bishop, was honoured to have been chosen. “The Peter Brock Trophy is already one of the most prestigious trophies in world sport,” Mr Bishop said, “…and the twin replicas are an equally amazing piece of craftsmanship.”
If you wanted to check out the Peter Brock Trophy for yourself it will be on display, along with the replicas, at various points during the Bathurst 1000 weekend, including the Supercheap Auto track store on Saturday.
And now there's just one more thing to say:
